Ingredients
7piecesfresh mint leaves
3dropsAngostura
20clginger beer
45mlgold rum
100glime
1/4piecechilli pepper - very fresh, not too spicy
Instructions
Start by washing the lime and chili thoroughly. Cut the lime into 8 large wedges and slice the chili into thin rounds.
Place the lime wedges in a sturdy-bottomed glass. Muddle them thoroughly with a wooden muddler or the back of a wooden spoon, to release the fresh juice and the zesty aroma.
Add the mint leaves to the glass and gently muddle them to release their aromatic oils. We don’t crush the mint too finely, so it’s easy to sip without bits getting in the way.
Now fill the glass with crushed ice.
And pour ginger beer over it.
Add a few drops of Angostura bitters over the ice to start the float...
Pour the rum gently over the Angostura, completing the float.
Top the cocktail with a few chili slices!
Finally, crown it with a sprig of fresh mint, pop in a straw to stir and sip, and voilà - Enjoy your Mochito!
Notes
Fresh Mint: Look for vibrant and crisp mint, it's an essential ingredient.
Angostura: Angostura bitters balances the sweetness of rum and ginger beer with a slightly bitter and herbal note.
Ginger Beer: This makes your Mochito spicy, sweet and fizzy.
Gold rum: Gold or amber rum adds depth and a rich flavor, without overpowering the lime and chilli. We love the float of amber rum in Mochito, so we pour it in at the end.
Lime: Organic lime is best, as we will use the zest as well.
Chilli: And fresh mild chilli gives a fiery kick and a beautiful pop of color.
